Job Description
  • Prepare laboratories and practical work areas for Physical Sciences and Life Sciences lessons.
  • Assist teachers with demonstrations, experiments, and practical assessments.
  • Set up, clean, and maintain laboratory equipment and materials.
  • Prepare and label solutions, reagents, and biological specimens.
  • Ensure safe handling, storage, and disposal of chemicals and laboratory waste.
  • Maintain accurate inventories of equipment, chemicals, and consumables.
  • Support procurement processes by liaising with suppliers and checking deliveries.
  • Keep laboratory records, schedules, and safety documentation up to date.
  • Reinforce safety rules and procedures with learners during practical sessions.
  • Communicate effectively in both English and Afrikaans with staff and learners
Key Skills / Requirements
  • South African youth between 18 and 34 years old.
  • Stipend range: R5 241,00 – R6 000,00 per month.
  • Must be previously unemployed.
  • National Senior Certificate (Grade 12) or equivalent qualification.
  • A tertiary qualification in Physical Sciences, Chemistry, Life Sciences, Biology, Laboratory Technology or related field would be advantageous.
  • Valid SACE registration/certificate (essential).
  • Previous laboratory experience in a school or scientific environment (advantageous).
  • Knowledge of basic laboratory procedures and safety practices.
  • Computer literacy – Microsoft Office and general applications.
  • Strong organisational and administrative skills.
  • Ability to communicate effectively in English and Afrikaans.
  • Comfortable working with high‑school learners in a professional environment.
  • A valid driver’s licence and police clearance certificate (advantageous).
